National Grocers Association Calls for Applications for Creative Marketing and Merchandising Campaigns

Washington D.C.- The National Grocers Association (NGA), the trade association representing the independent supermarket industry, is now accepting nominations for its annual Creative Choice Awards, recognizing leading marketing and merchandising programs from the past year.

The new range of 2023 award categories includes:

  • Connections via Omnichannel
  • Traditional media – TV, radio and print
  • Community involvement
  • Inauguration or renovation
  • Merchandising
  • Local, specialized or emerging products
  • Seasonal event or campaign
  • Central Store/Frozen/GM/HBC
  • Fresh Rays

In addition to the main categories, two special recognition categories highlight significant industry initiatives, each of significance to its respective sponsor:

  • Kellogg’s Excellence in ESG Award, which recognizes campaigns focused on wellness, people, community and sustainability.
  • Unilever’s People Positive Award, which recognizes efforts that promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

“We have all seen independent community grocers emerge from the pandemic after demonstrating their ability to pivot, innovate and think outside the box,” said Laura Strange, NGA senior vice president, communications and external affairs. “Now it’s time to recognize the outstanding innovation, creativity and perseverance we’ve seen in our industry through the Creative Choice Awards.”

Retailers, wholesalers, suppliers, manufacturers and advertising agencies who create marketing and merchandising programs for independent grocery stores can submit entries; however, the Creative Choice Awards competition is a retailer competition and the retailer that implements the campaign will be rewarded. Events, campaigns or promotions held between December 1, 2021 and December 1, 2022 are eligible.

All completed registrations are due on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Entries will be judged on their creativity, clarity and effectiveness. Among the category winners, an “Outstanding Marketer” winner and an “Outstanding Merchandiser” will be selected by the public through online voting. These winners will be announced at NGA 2023 and recognized throughout the year.
