Everyone makes Net-Zero promises. SustainCERT’s new software will check their progress
LUXEMBOURG, November 17, 2021 / PRNewswire / – SustainCERT SA (“SustainCERT”), the leading digital platform for verifying carbon emissions reductions and an official certification body of the Gold Standard for the Global Goals, today announces the launch of the alpha version of Scope 3 software for credible claims of net zero emissions reduction interventions in corporate supply chains.
As more companies set net zero emissions targets, a closer examination of their transition plans has revealed significant credibility gaps in how to measure and report progress. Measurement and verification will be the decisive factors in distinguishing commitments from consequent actions.
The lack of scalable solutions to measure climate impact on supply chains has led companies to look to the tech industry for solutions. They need to understand the intricacies associated with their indirect emissions (Scope 3) and find ways to prove the progress of investments in greening their supply chains. This will be the key to credible net zero claims.
SustainCERT, the leading platform for verifying carbon emissions reductions and removals, launches a new product that enables companies to track, account for and report verified emission reductions in their supply chains for help achieve their net zero goals. The technology measures and verifies progress towards net zero efforts, while generating a potential new revenue stream to take climate action.
SustainCERT has started testing the alpha version of its software with partners such as General Mills, the Australian Meat and Livestock Association (MLA) and Rabobank. The new product will be presented later today at Value Change Initiative Online Summit.
Using SustainCERT’s proprietary software, companies can quantify and verify the climate impacts of interventions that reduce and remove emissions in their corporate value chain. Once verified, the software generates a unit that can then be traded between value chain actors and used for reporting against Scope 3 goals, introducing a new way to incent climate action.
“Companies aim to do more than just count and report emissions data,” said Marion Verles, CEO of SustainCERT. “Their challenge now is to take collective action in their supply chains to achieve their net zero ambitions.”
With audited accounting and Scope 3 claims reporting, the new software mitigates the risk of greenwashing, helps solve the double-counting dilemma, and presents a solution to the big question: How do you get businesses to act now?
SustainCERT’s Value Change Initiative (VCI), which officially launched today, works closely with Science Based Targets and various organizations, including WWF, WRI and CDP, to develop standards for accounting of credible scope 3. The guidelines developed as part of this initiative are fundamental to the SustainCERT software algorithm.
